One Humanity, One Struggle
Step Up the Struggle to Defend the Rights of All
The Marxist-Leninist Party of Quebec (PMLQ) strongly condemns the criminal assault that took place on January 29, at approximately 7:45 pm, at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the victims' friends and colleagues and the Muslim community, and send wishes for speedy recovery to all those who were wounded.
The response of the Quebec people in the hours that followed the attack was to organize vigils everywhere across Quebec to stand side by side with the Muslim community, as one people, as one humanity. Other vigils were also held across Canada. For the Quebec people it was an expression of their defense of the rights of all and of the need to step up this struggle on the basis of providing a modern definition of the rights that belong to all human beings.
Although attempts are being made to blame the people for this act of violence, it calls to mind that these attacks are state-organized and inspired. Sunday's shooting came just days after the publication of U.S. President Trump's racist and destabilizing decree banning the citizens of seven countries from entering the United States and closing the U.S. borders to refugees. Countries with Muslim populations and communities are taken as specific targets of U.S. state terrorism. A toxic climate is created where anything can happen. This in turn creates a climate of total anarchy and violence which is used to justify the unfettered use of police powers against the people and any notion of civil society, something which is being done here in Quebec as well. In this context, Quebeckers are blamed and accused of being racist and having tendencies of radicalization leading to violence in order to justify the deployment of police powers against the people.
In fact, it is only the people's resistance struggle in defence of the rights of all which opens society's path to progress. Within the dangerous situation which has been created by the U.S. imperialist striving for world hegemony and that of their NATO allies including Canada, the people must take charge of putting an end to this state of affairs by intensifying their struggle to defend the rights of those who are targeted and the rights of all. Quebec is also part of this war machine and neither the governments of Quebec nor of Canada can hope to escape history's judgement for participating in these crimes by denying their responsibility and wring their hands in sorrow at the consequences. Whether committed in the name of unity in diversity, national security, living together, or any other high ideal, state organized and inspired crimes must be firmly condemned by the peoples.
It is up to peoples to unite to defeat the mongers of war and aggression by firmly defending the rights of those who are attacked and the rights of all. The people of Quebec are at the forefront of this struggle, united irrespective of language, religion, national origin or any other consideration.
The PMLQ reiterates its deepest condolences to the grieving families and friends and calls on everybody to speak out and take action to change things in a way that will benefit the people and their cause.
